The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Community Development Agency are announcing a recruitment for 2 full-time positions for Senior Environmental Health Specialist.

The Senior Environmental Health Specialist (EHS) serves as the lead and the subject matter expert in the assigned environmental program area. The current vacancies are in the Land Use program and will serve as subject matter experts on septic systems, graywater systems, well construction and small water systems. Primary responsibilities include conducting inspections; investigating complaints; representing the County to the community, business owners and others; providing customer service and public information; assisting EHS management in the interpretation of laws and regulations regarding standards; assisting in the development of policies and procedures; and making recommendations regarding program improvements. The Senior Environmental Health Specialist works frequently with local and state officials in gaining compliance within the relevant jurisdiction.

The ideal candidate possesses strong knowledge/experience in the area of land use or other environmental health programs and a graduate degree in Public Health, Health Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field. In addition, they are customer-focused, possessing superior conflict resolution and communication skills (both oral and written). The ideal candidate is organized, can effectively utilize technology for record keeping and conducting research, and works effectively with other agencies. This individual exhibits a passion for environmental health services and a strong commitment to public health. Experience leading a program and/or staff is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of full-time environmental health experience performing duties of a California Registered Environmental Health Specialist that demonstrates possession of the listed knowledge and abilities. A graduate degree in Public Health, Health Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field is highly desirable.

CERTIFICATION: Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist with the California Department of Public Health.

TENTATIVE EXAM SCHEDULE: Depending on the number of qualified applications received, testing may consist of a highly-qualified review, an application screening, written exam, performance examination, online assessment, oral interview or any combination of these exams. Successful candidates will have their names placed on the eligible list.
